Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Ubisoft explains inclusion of Optical Camo.

INFO Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.-ghost-recon.jpg

Ubisoft has explained the inclusion of Optical Camo in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which was shown in a teaser released earlier this week. Turns out, it’s because it’s the way of the future. The game’s comminity developer Kimi wrote:

Quote:
Despite popular belief, we didn’t design this after a certain bespectacled wand-wielding boy’s accoutrement. We are, and remain, loyal to the Ghost Recon brand value of authenticity. In general Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is based on the very real Future Soldier Initiative 2030, which is a U.S. Army R&D program run by the US Army Natick Soldier Research Development and Engineering Center. Optical camo, like other technologies in Future Solider, is a near-future reality, and this is why we chose to include it in GRFS. We plan to discuss our references and inspirations in the coming months, so that you can see that we’ve done our homework in order to bring you a plausible future war scenario. In terms of optical camo, there are actually numerous research and military programs on it.
The game’s confirmed for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 with versions coming to DS, PSP and Wii as well. It’s expected this fall.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Details.

The first tidbits on Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier have arrived, via the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. CVG writes:

Quote:
The soldier of the future is an F16 on legs, as revealed in OPM's preview, which notes that because most of the fancy tech from the last Ghost Recon is now reality (UAVs, helmet HUDs) Ubisoft's having to push the series forward in Future Solider - and it has. The next game takes place 10-15 years after Advanced Warfighter and has the Ghosts out to stop an ultranationalist group that's managed to depose the Russian president.
The report also mentions 4-player drop in, drop out co-op and, oddly enough, no squad commands whatsoever.

Quote:
Character classes also play a pivotal role in the new game, with players receiving specific, unique bonuses for their chosen role (optical camo for Recon, heart sensors for Snipers, shoulder mounted missiles for Commandos).

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Predator cloaks explained.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will feature invisibility cloaks for players that, according to the latest issue of OPM, turn characters into transparent, blurry shapes. Studio producer Adrian Lacey explained:

Quote:
People always say, ‘It doesn’t exist’. It’s existed for about five years; we were looking at it for previous Recons. Imagine a suit covered in cameras. It films what’s around you and projects it back on your suit. You don’t disappear. You’re not invisible. It disturbs your perception, breaks up your silhouette. The author of the piece in the Brit mag’s latest issue, however, claimed that the effect is exactly like turning invisible.
Other kit outed for the game in the eight-page exclusive preview include soldier exoskeletons and shoulder-based rocket launchers, as detailed earlier this month. The game’s out later this year for PS3, 360, DS, PSP and Wii.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Gets a live-action trailer.

Ubisoft got Ben Mor to direct this live-action short based on Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, with visual effects by Asylum of Terminator Salvation fame. I have never played a Ghost Recon game or even given much thought to the series, which is okay, because you don't need to have done either of those things to enjoy this. As per usual in the realm of live action, the video starts out kind of cool, dips into cheesy territory, then somehow manages to be both simultaneously. We don't get many trailers like this for videogames, though, so I'd still recommend you give it a watch.

Even better, Hervé de Crécy and François Alaux, the people responsible for the phenomenal Oscar-winning animated short Logorama, will be creating a short film based upon Future Soldier sometime this year. Now that's worth getting excited over.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Ubisoft Sends Out Multiplayer Map Survey.

INFO Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.-ubisoft-sends-out-multiplayer-survey.jpg

Ubisoft wants to know what you think about multiplayer maps and how you play multiplayer. How do I know this? Because Ubisoft’s senior community developer Kimi Matsuzaki just sent out a survey to her Twitter followers asking about it, that's how. The survey asks three questions:

Quote:
1 What is your preference for MP maps in a boxed copy game?
2 What is your preference for multiplayer maps in DLC?
3 Modern Warfare 2 players, do you purposely unlock callsigns & emblems?
No specific game is mentioned in the survey, but Matsuzaki’s Twitter page is skinned with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future art, so do with that what you will. I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet, but I contacted Ubisoft to find out for sure, so stay tuned.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - MP beta to be on Conviction disc.

You'll get more than a silenced shotgun with your pre-order of Splinter Cell: Conviction. According to the official GameStop page with the reserve details for those who plan to buy the game before they know it's good, publisher Ubisoft will be offering access to an Xbox 360-exclusive Ghost Recon: Future Soldier multiplayer beta that will only be accessible via the Conviction disc.

Quote:
Reserve Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction and receive VIP Access to the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Multiplayer Beta. Beta offer is good only on Xbox 360 and is only accessible using the Splinter Cell Conviction game disc. Available online and in-store while supplies last.
The beta offer which appears very similar to the Halo 3 / Crackdown business of long ago, extends to online and in-store pre-orders at other big retailers as well, but only while supplies last. So, if you feel the need building already, you might want to consider dropping the coin now. Lord knows the GameStop and Best Buys of the world need the boost.

For players who can’t wait until fall to get their hands on Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Ubisoft is delivering a sneak peek this summer with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s Multiplayer Beta. The exclusive beta invitation, available for a limited time, will be included with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction on Xbox 360.

• Experience multiple aspects of the war from the unique perspectives of a high-level bodyguard, an engineer, a civilian and more.
• Play the single- or split-screen cooperative campaign across multiple theatres as the shadow of global conflict creeps across Northern Europe and beyond.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Rumored to Support Natal.

There's still a lot left to find out about what games will support Project Natal when it releases this holiday season, but here's one high profile title we might be able to put on the list: Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. According to French site JeuxVideo (translated version here):

Quote:
Anonymous sources tell them the tactical shooter will include an optional mode that uses Natal motion controls.
Interestingly, this mode would apparently keep players using the 360 controller with one hand, while the other hand will be used for motions controls; one example given is you'll be able to give your teammates orders using nothing but hand signals. If this is all accurate, it suggests Natal will be able to approximate something along the lines of the sort of nunchuck style setup that the Wii and Sony's Move controller can both do with their analog stick attachments. While this is all still unconfirmed, the fact that Ubisoft plans a heavy Natal assault this year makes it quite believable. If it's all accurate, it'll also be interesting to see whether the PlayStation 3 version of Future Soldier uses the Move as well.

For more on Future Soldier (which will release right alongside Natal and Move this holiday season), check out our recent preview.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Ubisoft chats about classes.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier producer Jean-Bernard Jacon has said that while the game is staying true to Tom Clancy’s ideas, it adds plausible future conflicts with some advanced tech that’s currently being tested as prototypes throughout the armies of the world. He also chats about the four different classes you will be playing as in the game. The game starts off with a Russian terrorist group working to destabilize the government, and you get to play one of the workers in the facility that the terrorists are getting ready to attack. It will also contain four classes of characters to play as:
Read more on: : i3D.net Game Forums http://forum.i3d.net/showthread.php?t=173904

• TheRecon soldier which uses camouflage.
• The Commando who is the “bad ass” with the “biggest and baddest” equipment.
• The Sniper who had the longest range weapons and can display enemy intelligence through sensors, letting his comrades know where the enemy is hiding.
• The Engineer who is the Swiss Army Knife of the team, and can trigger a magnetic pulse sheild in order to protect against electronic aggressions. He can also carry a small air drone on his back, allowing you to use it and play as it. You can also use a ground drone.

All sounds interesting, and you can watch the full video of Jean-Bernard chatting about the game over on Gamespot. More information on a PC version is expected at a later date.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Beta detailed.

Ubisoft's detailed the upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Xbox 360 multiplayer beta, via a leaflet included with copies of Splinter Cell: Conviction. According to Ubisoft's text, the Ghost Recon beta will not require the Conviction disc to launch once it's been downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace. What this means for you and your non-Splinter Cell buying mates, is that you'll likely be able to simply borrow a copy of Conviction from a chum to download the beta - so no Sam Fisher purchase necessary. The Ghost Recon leaflet reads:

Quote:
In order to get your hands on the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier Beta once it becomes available, you must be connected to Xbox LIVE so that you can download the beta from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Once the beta is available, you'll be able to download it through the news feed on the main menu of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction, free of charge and with no codes required.
The leaflet also confirms a BBFC 18 certificate for Future Soldier, suggesting a more adult-focussed outing than any of its predecessors.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Delayed into March quarter 2011.

This is how it all starts, folks. In today's Ubisoft investor's briefing, CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has been pushed from its initial Holiday 2010 launch window. Guillemot explained:

Quote:
Due to a very competitive environment, we decided to move the game out of the Christmas quarter, and into the March quarter. It will also provide additional time to our development teams to realize their vision.
We don't know about you guys, but we're flashing back to last year, when every release in November and December was pushed back a few months for those very reasons. If you're hoping to check out Future Soldier in the foreseeable future, you better make your way to E3 2010, where the game will be showcased to the public for the very first time.

Default Ghost Recon: Future Soldier - Screenshots & Gameplay Footage.

This games looks promising to say the least. It's Ubisoft effort to kick some life back into the Ghost Recon franchise, which we haven't seen on the market for a while now - not since Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Anyway, check out these cool screenshots from Ghost Recon: Future Soldier:
