Default Crysis 2 - EA keen on Crysis 3, 4 and 5.

EA has spoken of its desire to publish Crysis 3, 4 and 5 in future - after the second iteration of Crytek's series lands later this year. Crysis 2 has been heralded by critics as the 'best-looking game to ever hit consoles' - but EA Partners boss David DeMartini went one further, claiming that the release is a serious contender for game of the year. When we asked DeMartini if EA was keen to publish Crysis 3 and future sequels in our all-new interview, he replied:

Quote:
Absolutely, yes. I'm confident we'll continue to have that series and that relationship. We continue to fulfil what we promised [Crytek] and, as I said, they are fantastic partners and incredibly loyal. With regards to our ongoing relationships with Crytek and future Crysis games - absolutely. We're always very interested in anything that they're doing. But the nature of our relationship with them is - to some degree - unwritten loyalty to each other.
When questioned about how good the second game in the series looked, DeMartini told us:

Quote:
The funny thing about Crysis is that people get so enamoured with how great it looks - and it does - it sometimes get labelled as the best looking game, as opposed to what actually should be its title, which is the best game. Through the suit, what you're able to do with the suit and the setting in New York - this kind of destroyed beauty - it offers everything. My personal hope is that it's critically viewed in a category with the Bungie game and the upcoming Call Of Duty - as well as the best things that EA has - as the greatest game of the year. I think it should be.
Crysis 2 is expected to land on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 in December this year.

Default Crysis 2 - To go 3D as well.

INFO Crysis 2-crysis-2-countdown.jpg

Another day, another game confirmed to be made in 3D. Crytek has officially announced that they will be implementin 3D features to Crysis 2. According to the developer:

Quote:
To be honest, it has been a real challenge. Not with implementing 3D but with the optimization for the computers. It will be resource hungry, but with few patches and a dedicated team, I am sure we will provide a stable experience.
They did not specifically note how they will implement 3D, but it is anticipated that they will be making it throuh a patch. No word yet as to when it will come out.

Default Crysis 2 - Interview with Nathan Camarillo.

Crytek's groundbreaking shooter series is moving out of the jungle and into New York City. But even more exciting, the franchise that famously ate high-end PC rigs for breakfast is going multi-platform, so 360 and PS3 owners can finally find out what all the fuss is about. We recently sat with Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo to discuss the challenges behind bringing Crysis 2 to the Big Apple and onto consoles.

Quote:
AG: Crysis was notorious for its demanding system requirements. How did this affect the design philosophy for creating the sequel, especially given that it's multi-platform?

NC: The original Crysis had this stigma of players needing a monster machine to play it...and that it'd probably catch on fire. That wasn't entirely true though; you could play it and enjoy it, but maybe you couldn't turn it all the way up to 11. But that was still the stigma that sort of followed Crytek, and that's something we're definitely trying to shake. I wouldn't say that console development is difficult, but it has forced us to reexamine how we do things; we now have to solve problems with more finesse than force. And we're finding ways to push the consoles in more ways than other developers have. After Crysis, Cevat's (Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek) goal was to get Crytek's games out to more people, a bigger audience, and get CryENGINE technology on consoles. That's what we've been able to do with CryENGINE 3...find a way to not only make the technology scalable, but also accessible. From a design point of view, it also forces us to focus on what's important to the core of Crysis; we want it to be more accessible, but we don't want to nerf anything either. If anything, we have even more features than the original game, but they're smarter in the way that they're implemented. The way the user interfaces with these features is also much cleaner. We're thinking in much broader terms, and everything's under a microscope.

AG: Can Xbox 360 and PS3 owners expect the same Crysis 2 experience than owners of tweaked PC rigs?

NC: There might be some minor differentiation in console versus PC, but our goal is to deliver the best experience possible on each respective platform. If you're playing PC, you'll get the best PC gaming experience you can; if you're playing console, you're going to get the best possible experience for that platform. There may be differences, but no one should feel robbed or cheated. We'll deliver the best experience to all players, and certainly the core game will be the same.

AG: For many gamers this will be their first exposure to the Crysis series. Taking that into account, is the sequel serving as sort of a fresh start for the franchise?

NC: We are looking at Crysis 2 as a reboot of the franchise. Not so much in the story, as there will be some narrative continuity between the first and second game, but it'll definitely serve as a jumping in point for new players. The story is a continuation to some extent, but you won't need to know what happened in Crysis in order to get into it. We're not completely changing things in, say, the way the Grand Theft Auto titles change from game to game, but aside from core ideas, like the Nanosuit, you're getting a fresh start. If you like a shooter that offers these awesomee powers, systemic gameplay, and a path that's not heavily scripted, you'll enjoy Crysis 2. And if you have not played the first game, we think the sequel may inspire you to go back and check it out.

Default Crysis 2 - locked in for autumn.

Crysis 2 will definitely launch by the end of the year - and will be in stores by the autumn. That's according to an EA trade press ad featured in this week's MCV that proudly proclaims the Autumn 2010 release of Crytek's ambitious console and PC shooter. The game was previously assumed to be due by the end of this year but EA, which is handling the release under its EA Partners label, had not committed to a more exact timing.

Now it's clear it will be out during the busy Q3/Q4 selling season. Crysis 2 is a sequel to the cutting-edge PC title, and boasts a New York setting and advanced AI features.

Default Crysis 2 - In 3D.

USA Today reports that the upcoming multiplatform shooter Crysis 2 will include 3D support on all three platforms (PC/360/PS3). Cevat Yerli, CEO of Frankfurt-based Crytek said:

Quote:
The futuristic shooter action game Crysis 2 promises to be the first major game available in 3-D on the three major high-def game platforms when it is released later this year for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PCs. The success of 3-D movies like Avatar and the introduction of 3-D TVs from the hardware manufacturers tells us that this is the next big movement in entertainment, much like HD was years ago. Both versions of the game (2-D and 3-D) will have the same content. Even the game's multiplayer mode will be playable in 3-D. For games especially, 3-D gives gamers an increased level of immersion, which can enhance an intense experience like Crysis 2.

Default Crysis 2 - Is more pleasing in 3D than Killzone 3.

Crytek’s Cevat Yerli has said when it comes to 3D, he’s heard Crysis 2 offers players a more pleasing experience than Killzone 3. Crysis 2 uses a concave 3D effect so that objects do not pop out of the screen, which gives the game more depth according to Yerli. He told Videogamer at E3:

Quote:
I have heard numerous people say – and I have seen myself – that we have a better 3D experience than other games right now on the show floor. I don’t want to mention any names. However, when pressed regarding comparisons to Killzone 3, Yerli said he had not seen the game running in 3D, but that he had heard from others that Crysis 2 looked better. I think it’s a more pleasing experience. People say it’s much more pleasing, much easier on the eye, and it has more depth. I haven’t seen Killzone, to be honest. I wish I would see it, but they won’t let me see it!
Crysis 2 is due out in this fall, on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, with all formats 3D capable.

Default Crysis 2 - Has best AI in gaming history.

Crytek has claimed that the enemy AI in Crysis 2 is the most sophisticated in video game history. Speaking exclusively to CVG, Crytek boss Cervat Yerli said the title boasted thinking, fair foes - which is good news for those who want their enemies smart, but not Skynet smart. OXM man Ryan King reported that the FPS was the best-looking title he'd ever seen on 360 earlier this year. Since then, Crytek has revealed that the game will be playable in full 3D on 360, PS3 and PC when it is released at the tail-end of this year. Yerli told CVG:

Quote:
We have the most advanced AI system in a game. We think that Crysis 2 has the most advanced AI for both humans and aliens you've ever seen. They will be showing tactical co-ordination, they will be more challenging but not unfair - they will be truly intelligent, thinking, fair enemies. I think from that perspective our gameplay experience will be very unique because on one hand you have a world that allows freedom, on the second hand a hero that allows freedom - but also an enemy that adapts to freedom and provides you constant challenge no matter what you do.
A Crysis 2 Nano edition was outed earlier this month. It includes a nano-suit backpack - but will cost you in excess of £100.
